Getting one

Can I buy Edgewater now?

Not yet. Edgewater is in development. We're running free pilot installs in San Diego in early 2027 and plan to sell the first units in summer 2027, once it's certified and insured.

How much will it cost?

We plan to sell it for $399, plus $8 a month for phone alerts to your household, the backup-contact chain, saved clips and the daily check. Prices will be final once certification and insurance are in place.

How do I join the free pilot?

Take our 4-minute survey and check "Be considered for a free test install" at the end. The pilot is for San Diego County homes with a pool and young kids or a dog. More about the pilot.

Does it work outside San Diego?

Edgewater will work anywhere with a pool, but the pilot installs are in San Diego so we can visit in person. Leave your email in the survey to hear when it's available near you.

How it behaves

What happens if my Wi-Fi goes down?

The siren at the pool still works. It runs entirely on the box and never waits for the internet. Phone alerts need a connection; a cellular backup is planned for a later version.

Will it go off every time we swim?

Turn on swim mode in the app when adults are swimming. Edgewater won't alarm for adults, but still alarms for a child or a pet, and it re-arms itself after 30 minutes of calm water.

Does it work for pets?

Yes. A dog or cat going in gets the same full alarm as a child.

What about our robotic pool cleaner?

The camera is designed to recognize pool cleaners, toys and leaves and switch the siren off for them. We're testing this on our test rig with a real robotic cleaner, and we'll share results.

What if the camera isn't sure?

It alarms. The camera can only switch the siren off when it's confident it's not a person or an animal. Uncertain, or no answer in time, means a full alarm.

How do I know it's still working?

Every morning the app confirms that Edgewater is armed, charged and passed its self-test. If the sensor is damaged or unplugged, you're told right away.

How is it powered?

A battery topped up by a small solar cell. Our goal is a full swim season without charging, and we're measuring real power use now.

What kinds of pools does it work with?

We're designing for in-ground backyard pools first. If you have an above-ground pool, a spa or a beach-entry pool, tell us in the survey. It helps us decide what to support next.

Safety and privacy

Does Edgewater replace a fence or supervision?

No. Edgewater is a backup for the minutes when nobody is watching. Keep a fence with a self-latching gate, an adult watching whenever kids are near the water, and swimming lessons.

Is it certified?

Not yet. We plan to test to ASTM F2208, the U.S. standard for pool alarms, in spring 2027, before we sell any units.

Is the camera recording my backyard?

No. There's no continuous recording and no live stream. The camera's analysis happens on the box, and a short encrypted clip is saved only after something goes into the water. More on privacy.

Could someone hack it?

Security is part of the design from day one: software updates are signed so the box only runs our code, clips are encrypted, and video isn't streamed anywhere. No connected device is perfectly secure, and we'll publish how to report a vulnerability before launch.
